Sister off in to the sunset

Thursday, June 16th, 2005

Today was the last day for dinner with my sister for quite some time. She is going off to The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to do a internship. She says she will be back, but we will see.

Nagios

Saturday, June 11th, 2005

Well, today I worked on getting monitoring setup. I had used Big Brother in the past, and have not been very happy with it. This time I went with Nagios which used to be Netsant. I have looked at this product in the past, but the configuration has scared me away each and every time. Today I decided to sit down and get the thing working. I worked with the config for about 6 hours today, and man was it time consuming, it reminded me of doing the veritas cluster config.

All said, I have 10 hosts and 53 services setup. Tomorrow I will work on getting qpage up and running again.

Grillin

Friday, June 10th, 2005

Well, today’s grill special was Brats. I picked some up from Angus Meats yesterday, and they have been waiting for the grill.

I did Hickory smoke this time, and man did that add flavor! They where great as normal. I also tried to toast the buns, but that did not work as well.

Cars

Monday, June 6th, 2005

Well, Brought my car to the shop to get the lug bolt replaced, and they found a bit more wrong than I expected. I had a CV boot replaced, as well as two hub bearing thingies where loose, so they replaced them. Thanks Warranty Direct for picking up the tab. I also had the main belt replaced. I am amazed that they got it all taken care of in one day.

I have been use to the normal service stations, but now I am getting use to going to the dealer, just because it is so much more convenient. I have no idea if the skill levels are the same (I doubt it) but its nice being able to get a ride to/from work.

Day to relax!

Sunday, June 5th, 2005

Well, being not exactly having a car I want to drive, I did not do much today.I sat around, cleaned out the tivo, and relax. For dinner, I had a craving for Roly Poly. I found out one was down the street about 20 blocks, so went on a little adventure, to find out they are closed on Sundays. Now that makes Roly Poly and David Fongs that are closed on Sundays. Ended up doing the fallback of Chipolte.

Getting ready for DR

Sunday, June 5th, 2005

Every year, we do a disaster recovery for work, and this years test is just starting to wind up. We have been preparing for about 6 months, but the last months things get down to the wire, and it becomes very crazy. For the most part this year I have stayed out of the mess, and kind of done stuff in the background, to hand the torch over to other folks.

Stud? Did I need that

Saturday, June 4th, 2005

Well. today I finished up by breaks on my car. I did the right side before my cabin trip (as it was already digging in to the rotor) and today I did the left side. When I was taking my lug nuts off, one of them was kind of hard to get off, so I went a bit harder. What felt like the lug nut breaking loose ended up being the lug bolt breaking off. Well, looks like I get to go off to the shop and get that fixed up on Monday.

I got a longer breaker bar from my father, so the break calliper came off fairly easily. Got my break pads swapped out, and put things back together again, minus the one lug nut.
