Today was shutdown and travel day. Got the systems cleaned up and shut down, then went ahead and waited for the plane ride. Overall it was a nice and smooth plane ride.
The test this year went amazingly well, I am very happy with the results, and happy its going to be another year until I need to see Philly again.
It was also very nice getting back home and relaxing a bit.
Today was a bit more relaxed, we are down to the last application. We have had all of our apps restored and tested, and worked on one final app that is going to be tested tonight.
Today we made it out to the liberty bell, which was very nice. We got to see the bell, plus all the old house and senate buildings. It was a very nice walk, but a bit hot.
Later in the evening, we finished up testing for our last app, and it was off to the bar (lets just say we had to get a night of drinking done in about a hour).
Yep, you guessed it, another long day. Today we did not get out until about 1:00am, we had some issues with one of the restores. Overall things are going very, very well. All of the tested apps have not had any problems. I am very happy. With luck, tomorrow we can get out and do some looking around.
Well, I got back after a bit of sleep, and the outstanding tape drive issue was still outstanding. Spent some time getting that all fixed up, then both backup and recovery environments where all set to rock and roll. Unfortunately the delay did cause timelines to get pushed back a bit, but nothing we can not make up.
By the end of the day, most of our apps where recovered, and some of the configuration had started. Another late night.
Well, as I thought, today was a long day. Today we got the backup and recovery environment up and running with very little problems overall, but doing that tied us up for some time, so we ran late with some of the system configuration tasks. We pounded through those outstanding tasks, and restores had started by evening time. The only outstanding issue so far is tape drive configuration for one media server, we will see if that gets resolved by morning.
Today is travel day for our disaster recovery test. Got a mid-afternoon flight and made it to Philly by early evening. Getting checked in the hotel was quite an experince, as the hotel had a new computer system they had just started using. How fun.
The DR vendor we use was nice enough to treat us all to a nice dinner, a nice italian meal. It was nice to get a good meal in before the test. Tomorrow is going to be a long day….
Well, today things had started to wind down at work, I did not want to have that much going on today. Got home, did some more house cleaning, and got dinner cooked up.
It was very nice to be able to spend a day to just wind down and relax a bit at work.
Well, todays major task was to get the house cleaned up, lawn mowed, garage cleaned out, etc. I got the housework done up, then started working on Dinner. I picked up two steaks, one for tonight and one for tomorrow. It was a bit more done than I would have liked, but I got some nice grill marks, so I was happy about that.
Tomorrow I will go for a bit more rare, we will see.
Well, today was a very nice day, so I drove around.
I went over to Wisconsin for a trip, then on the way back, I went along the st croix river up to Stillwater, MN. It was amazing how many boats where out and about on the river, around I-94. Driving along the river was very nice, I also went across the Stillwater lift bridge which was kind of cool. I then went from Stillwater to White Bear Lake, to the the grill store and got some goodies. Then it was off to my friends house for the normal thing.
Todays attempt was to clean out the gutters on my house. They are so bad, they have stuff growing out of them. I ran off to Home Depot to get one of those thingies that attaches to the end of my hose and extends to clean things out. Well, that lasted about 2 hours before it broke spraying water all over.
I guess I get to get the ladder out to get this crap cleaned out.
