roly poly

Thursday, February 17th, 2005

Today after running late for normal Thurs night, we attempted Roly Poly and we won. A. they deliver, and B. they have good food. We thought about doing them last Saturday, but they closed at 6 PM. We had them today, and it was good food, something we can add to the list.

Shpping

Wednesday, February 16th, 2005

Well, today was kind of a low key day. I am starting to get back in to my normal relaxed type of schedule. Things are getting away from crazy wild busy at work, and getting more towards just crazy busy.

Dad made up some chili and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner. Speaking of which, I went shopping today, and below is what I got.

1. 6 TV dinners
2. 3 boxes of granola bars
3. 2 boxes of Popsicles

Is this showing that I hate shopping and cooking or what?

No more water, No more Active Directory

Tuesday, February 15th, 2005

Well, I went down to the basement today, to find no more water in the basement. It got below freezing last night, so my basement remained dry. Last night our customer flew in a Microsoft consultant to figure out our AD problem. The consultant went through my DNS server with a fine tooth comb, and it passed with flying colors. It turns out that the fix to the security channel issues was available publicly on Microsoft’s website. Amazing.

I spent the rest of the day getting my two servers finished up. I got them all built, and ready for a restore of about 2tb of data tonight. Wheee!

Lake in bastment?

Monday, February 14th, 2005

Well, last night I went down stairs to do wash, to find a lake in my basement. Not a very big lake, but big enough to suck my evening up. I had gotten a bit hammered last night before doing wash, so it was an interesting experience. I got my carpet cleaner (which has a “hard floor” attachment”) and started sucking the water up. I filled up the little 1 gallon container up about 7 times before all was said and done.

Yesterday afternoon in to last night, it rained, about 1/4 of an inch. Now, normally this is not an issue, but this time, it rained on top of frozen ground, and the water on the north side of my house had to go somewhere, so it went in to my basement.

Tonight there is still a pool of water on the side of my house, so therefore still a pool of water inside my basement. I got a wet-dry vac, so I got rid of another 12 gallons or so of water. I am sure the same will be true tomorrow, so I am planning to leave work early tomorrow.

Now on to work….
Last week was filled with failures. I failed to get servers installed, I spent all week on stupid DNS problems, nothing went my way. This week is looking better. Today I got my SAP servers built. Today I got access to my brocade fiber switches. Today I got my switches on the fabric. Today I discovered that the AD issues might not be DNS. And finally today, I found out our backup team invalidated the backups I was going to use to build a database, so I get another day to carve out my 3TB of disk for this project. Can things get any better?

Tonight now that I got my water cleaned up, time to relax to some TV.

Freedom - almost

Sunday, February 13th, 2005

Well, I made it through most of the day without getting paged when I was not on call, just one page from the stupid IT Security person. She called after I had been drinking, so I did not care all that much. The good news is that I finished off the bottle of crappy tasting long island ice tea mix. Man that stuff sucked.

I did some driving around today, got the computer room cleaned up, and I thought about rotating my cars tires today, but it started raining. I also got tons of shows cleaned out of my tivo. Watched some stuff that has been sitting around for weeks.

Nice day, cool pics

Well, I am somewhat of an aviation enthusiast. I like watching big planes, but I tend to like monitoring for odd things over the radio, than watching a plane that I have not seen before or something. I do enjoy watching the big planes (747, DC10, A330, etc) take off and land, or just taxi past.

Today when driving around the airport, I ran across something I have only seen once before, it was a tail peaking from some place I do not normally see a tail. I drove around, and found that they had a cargo 747-200 - tail N629US - parked behind the Northwest cargo facility at MSP. This gave me a chance to get some rare pictures.

Not oncall

Is it that hard to NOT page me when I am not oncall?

BAH!!!

beutiful day

Well, today at work we had taken a break to go off to VERITAS for a veritas users group meeting, me and two co-workers went. We got a presentation on the entire line of veritas products, and after we had discussions on netbackup. On the way out, I saw someone had the license plate “UNIX SA”. It was very interesting, being parked right next to my SU ROOT plate. The weather ended up being a very nice 48 degrees, which is very good for feb. in Minnesota.

DNS blowing up, take two

Wednesday, February 9th, 2005

Well, ever since AD going in, one thing after another has been breaking with DNS. First it was records not being in place (not my problem), then it was bad cache (not my problem), and now some idiot deleted the A records for the NS records (not my problem). What kind of idiot changes A records to CNAMES, which the NS records point to? Geez!!

Tonight at my friends house, I got some nice hard cider that tastes kinda good, and we watched our normal bad movies. We watched The Grudge as well as the pilot for DLM.

Long day at work

Tuesday, February 8th, 2005

Well, I was ready for this week at work to totally suck, but was not expecting it to suck this much, this early. I am under a tight deadline to get 2 servers built, and this deadline is then transferred to our remote site that our servers are located at. Well, I guess I am handling it better than others, as the cabling person that helps us out just totally blew up today. He bitched and moaned about all of his time being taken up by is, etc. I did not respond, but I wanted to tell him to be quiet and take it up with his boss, as it is not my problem. This added stress to me, to an already stressful implementation. Off to find something to drink.
